Are You a Son or Daughter of Issachar?

“They understood the times, and knew what to do...”

1 Chronicles 12:23-40 tells of a unique, tumultuous time in history when God had rejected King Saul as the King of Israel for his sin and anointed David in Saul’s place.  David was on the run and in hiding from Saul who sought to destroy him.  There was great confusion and disagreement in the land as to who to support as God’s man to lead the nation out of the time of the Judges when “everyone did what was right in their own eyes”  (Judges 21:25).

In the midst of this turmoil, there were those who had the biblical discernment to know the right course of action.  Many from the tribes of Israel were coming to David in the wilderness to offer support.  And in 1 Chronicles 12:32, we read:  “from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do…”

The sons of Issachar, one of the tribes of Israel, supported David because they “understood the times.”  In Hebrew, the word “understood” means they were “able to distinguish between the counterfeit and the genuine” when it came to God’s will and timetable.  They understood this because they knew it “according to the word of the Lord” (v. 23). And so, they came to provide David with material support and encouragement and did so with great joy (v. 40).

A Unique Opportunity to Impact Your World For Christ

WORDview Ministries believes we too are living in a very unique moment in God’s timetable.  All about us, there is turmoil, conflict, and confusion.  Many disagree over the issues and solutions.  But “according to the word of the Lord,” we understand the times and know what to do.  Now more than ever our nation and world needs the life-changing message found in the Bible.  Our world needs “the word of the Lord,” a biblical worldview, a “WORD-view.”  That is the mission of WORDview Ministries—to teach and encourage others in how to read God’s word for personal life-change, church renewal, and community transformation.
