Saved From What Exactly?

Saved From What Exactly?

Recently I was talking with a young woman who is very 'churched,' and I said, "When we use the word SAVED, many people don't know what they need to be 'saved' from." She nodded in agreement. I could see she was processing. After a quiet moment, she said, "what DO we need to be saved from?'

Colossians 1
13 For He has rescued us and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption [because of His sacrifice, resulting in] the forgiveness of our sins [and the cancellation of sins' penalty]. (AMP)

Do you remember? …the dominion of darkness - living in the grip of sin. I remember that darkness - that place where Satan kills, steals and destroys. It's real. And I remember the moment He transferred me to the kingdom of light - the kingdom of His beloved Son.

Strange. I understood so many things concerning God. I believed He existed. I went to church. I even read the Bible occasionally - I was a woman OF the Word, and yet I waded in the muck and mire of the kingdom of darkness

I remember. Do you? Or are you still there?

I believe our churches are full of those who do not know from whom or what they need to be SAVED. Genesis 3 tells us of God's great plan and the ultimate loss of the title deed to earth. Revelation 5 declares that Jesus has bought that deed back, and someday every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:10 - 11).

Believing God exists does not mean you have been saved from the dominion of darkness. So we ask: have you been rescued from the dominion of darkness?

I'm so thankful He pursued me, and I am saved.
